On April 6, 2018, the Seminole County Bar Association Legal Aid Society (SCBALAS) Board elected of counsel attorney, Julianna Groot, to serve as Vice President for the upcoming year.
Since 1975, SCBALAS has provided free legal services of the highest quality to Seminole County’s economically disadvantaged persons. SCBALAS provides free legal services in family law and civil cases to low-income veterans, families, disabled and senior citizens, and individuals. In doing so, its goal is to improve their quality of life and enhance their self-sufficiency.
In 2018, SCBALAS was awarded a grant to help victims of crime. The grant allows qualifying victims of crime to a free consultation regarding civil legal matters. The grant was awarded by the Office for Victims of Crime, Office of Justice Programs and sponsored by Seminole County Bar Association Legal Aid Society, Inc. and the State of Florida.
SCBALAS is supported by attorney volunteers, student volunteers, and donations, which help fulfill their mission to make a difference in people’s lives. Staffed by attorneys, paralegals, and interns, the nonprofit protects and improves the lives, well-being, and safety of clients and families through services, such as:
For Julianna, providing legal services to those in need and unable to afford an attorney has been a priority since law school, where she received the Distinguished Pro Bono Service award. Julianna is looking forward to giving back to the legal community in this new capacity and furthering MLG’s mission of community responsibility and involvement.
